Chronicles: CW2013 - EP 13 - Sneaking out on Daddy
Posted on Friday, April 12 @ 16:41:28 PDT by firemonkey

R. Talsorian Games charlie writes "The gang begins settling old debts and making new ones. Bob sees what Night City's most powerful gang, the NCPD does to gangs who cross it. Silver finds her career in jeopardy as her newly accquired night life is not appropriate for family audiences, and Lazarus runs across a mysterious new program in cyberspace.

Original Play Date: April 5, 2002
Gang Members and Associates Present: Lazarus, Fix, Bob, Silver.

Dozens of policemen race through the the staging bays for the AV-4 tactical response teams. Half a dozen angular armored fliers whir and emit a hot, stinking haze as their pilots check systems before takeoff. Around them, cops in battle armor line up with weapons for inspection by their squad leaders and then board the waiting AVs.

Bob limps through the station, following the activity intently. He runs into Captain Bryant who smiles and assures him that tonight, the NCPD is going to show the Steel Wolves what happens when you stalk one of their own. Bob nods appreciatively, and asks if he can join them. Bryant looks him over skeptically, but then welcomes him as a guest of honor in the night's action. Bob rushes to his locker, fits on a flack jacket, and boards an AV with Bryant.

Half a dozen AV-4s shriek through the air toward the abandoned car parks where the Steel Wolves are known to gather. Inside the AV, there is grim darkness and shadowy smiles and nods of approval to Bob from officers. "This one's for you, man" is heard over and over like a prayer.

A sickening dropping feeling, like being in a roller coaster followed by a hard break press into their seats is followed by muffled PA warnings and a peal of minigun fire from the AVs. The AV sets down, and Bryant pulls the armored side door open to let in a wave of battle sounds and the men pour out. Bob sits patiently in his cash harness as ground vehicles pull up beside the AV and pour out more and more officers who rush into the attack.

From the safety of the AV's belly, Bob listens to the sinisterly lopsided exchange of gunfire. When the firing dies down to sporatic flareups as officers begin rooting out gangers who weren't mauled or captured in the initial attack, Bob unbuckles himself and steps gingerly onto the asphalt outside. He takes out his trusty .38 and walks into the ruined car park. He walks past dozens of bodies and up the stairwell to a higher level were a squad is preparing to burst onto the 5th level of the car park. Bob walks past them to the door, muttering "this is how we did it in the old days" and kicks open the door.

There are two gang members here, cowering in fear behind derelict cars, but not too afraid of one man in bandages to avoid trying to shoot him. Bob whips off a shot and shoots a gun out of a gang member's hand before they can aim at him. He yells for them to drop their weapons and give up, and the one with a newly sore hand surrenders. The other dives back behind the car, so Bob walks over and shoots that one's gun out of his hand as he rounds the car. He turns to the squad, standing in shock and still in the stairwell, and with a nod, snaps them out of their stupor and the gang members are quickly apprehended and zip tied.

Later, outside, a cheer goes up for Bob as he exits and the Trauma Team AVs begin arriving. Fix hops out of an AV and greets Bob. Fix looks ragged and stretched out from long double shifts at the company. He laughs that he almost dosed himself with a toxin instead of a stimulant before this evening's shift. Fix asks Bob if he's up for going the races this evening, and Bob replies "yes." They part ways. Where Bob's job has ended this evening, Fix's starts as he begins patching up hurt officers."

One should not assume that one does not shoot well if one does not use one's gun often.
