Chronicles: Cyberpunk 2020 - Robin Low- Game 2: Mission Failure
Posted on Tuesday, June 25 @ 11:55:13 PDT by firemonkey

R. Talsorian Games After getting their first Mission, to retrieve Scientist Jacob G.R. Briggs unharmed, the super human start to plan their mission. They will first need to get the scientist from his house, then transport him to a safe place for holding...

To get a form of transport, 427, 999, 2151 collectively decide to steal the vehicles from the wanted chromer gang because they think that the chromer gang would not report their stolen vehicles to the police.

After searching London for possible hangout, they ahve reached the 'Warehouse' where loud heavy metal music is played and decide to seek out the chromers there.

When they do not find any chromers there, 999 decide to steal weapons at the weapon hold, whicle others start a bar brawl. However due to their unhuman strength, 2151 and 808 managed to throw ppl around and cleared a circle around the dance floor before anyone could really get to them, there is not much of a fight when everyone around them gets thrown 20 ft away within the first 12 seconds.

Seeing huge bouncers in linear frames, they decide to take their chances taking over the police car outside the scientist's house.

999 and 427 easily kills all the policemen guarding the scientist, while 808 and 2152 locates a safehouse to store the scientist.

After waking up the old scientist and asking him to leave with her, 999 gets impatient as he wants to get his 'stuff' and hit him in the face repeatedly, then they escaped in the police car. As 427 has no prior driving experience, they eventually got lost and ended up on the train tracks with a fast approaching train. 427 lost control of the car and flipped the car, but luckily, the train missed them.

They finally got to a hotel in the red light district, but the scientist was already in a coma by then. They end up calling the cops to send the scientist to the hospital to prevent him from dying, and now have to 'kidnap' him another day.

Currenty, they noticed a middle aged man staying at the hostel, just across from the room that they are staying. He does not seem like a cop, but he is definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time....

Like I said in my own cyberpunk chronicles, when faced with a dangerous or confusing situation, players will almost always opt to kill everyone at the scene and run for their lives. This of course almost never works if the game is even vaguely based on real socio-legal dynamics.

I guess in situations like these when the players are supposed to be vaguely professional, it behooves the GM to act as Jiminy Cricket and offer suggestions to the players on how they (as professionals) might play the situation. Of couse, some players resent being steered, but most are happy to get guidance and insight into a world they might not be fully comfortable in.
